foster update 3.30.08
I have been adjusting well to living in a home environment and have come a long way. I get along famously with all dogs, but my favorite dogs are other playful ones like me! I would make an awesome companion dog and playmate because I am polite and submissive. I am very well behaved in public, and I am not reactive at all, in fact I am pretty mellow. Weekends you can usually find me and my foster mom on a long walk or at a coffee shop enjoying the day. I even get along with dog savvy cats, and am respectful of them and their space. I can be crated up to 6 hours during the day, and at night I do just fine sleeping on the couch. I have not been around too many small children so I would do best in a home with kids 12 and older.
intake notes 2.23.08
My story is a sad one, I was found as a stray at 2 months of age and was brought to the shelter. 5 months later I was still there. I was lucky to be able to stay in the play yard for hours with other friendly dogs at the shelter, and as a result I am well socialized and get along great with all dogs. The people at PBRSD came to get me just as my time was up, and I went home with PBRSD's trainer Jessica to learn how to live in the real world. At first I was completely shut down, but as the days went by I opened up and learned to enjoy my new environment. My foster Mom thought I was a heavy sleeper because I wouldn't wake up when she came home, but she came to find out that I was deaf! Imagine living your whole life trying to communicate with people who talk to you, and not being able to understand. Being deaf doesn't slow me down one bit though! With the use of hand signals I now know sit, down, stay, come, target to hand, focus, shake, and how to relax on a mat. I am super smart and learn so quickly! I am amazing on leash, and am perfectly content trotting by your side and discovering the world. I am crate trained, and as long as I get taken out regularly I won't eliminate in the house. I love spending my days wrestling with Jessica's female pit bull, playing fetch, and chewing on bones. I would love a home with another dog to play with, preferably one who likes to play chase :) I am an easy going boy and I love being petted in your lap. Because of the extensive amount of training I have received, it's imperative that my new home continue the training and learn how to communicate with me properly. In return, I will be the best companion you could ever hope for.

Please note that Pit Bull Rescue San Diego does not adopt on a first come first served basis. Generally we have formed an opinion about the sort of home that we want for each of the dogs in our program. This opinion is formed from knowing each dog and observing their interactions in various situations and through periodic evaluations. Our goal is to place our charges in the home that is the best possible for that particular dog. Our only goal is happiness and forever homes for our dogs. A forever home is most likely to happen when we do the best we can to find lifestyles and personalities that match.
We are aware that this is a human process and that you may or may not agree with our decisions. Please understand that we take very seriously the lives placed in our hands for this brief time and our decisions are only made out of protectiveness for the breed and the specific dogs we are placing and not out of any judgment of you or your life.
