Marley
Foster update 3/19/2008
Marley is a very well mannered 2 year old female. She loves chew toys and bones but has never chewed on anything in our house. She loves being close to people and she loves to snuggle!! She loves her ears, neck, and faced rubbed. Marley knows how to come, sit, and shake and understands no very easily. We are currently working on laying down and staying.
Marley does not like being alone and this is the only time she has tried to get out of her crate. I know this because she has chewed on it a bit trying. I had read that she was an escape artist but she has never tried to get out of our yard. I do leave her in the crate during the day though.
She will stand across the room from us when we are eating and does not come closer until we are finished. She has not tried to take any food off tables, counters, coffee tables etc.
Marley has the cutest little pounce that she does when playing. It's a cross between a leap and a jump. She loves to pounce around the yard and play with us and her toys or just chew a bone. She really likes to chew raw hide bones outside on the grass.
Marley ABSOLUTELY LOVES to sun bathe!!! We have a back deck that the sun hits in the morning on the weekends and she loves to lay there during that time.
We have introduced her to a few other dogs however she will show aggression to larger forward or aggressive dogs. (Basically she really doesn't enjoy other dogs to sniff her butt!) Small submissive dogs she loves. I have not had her around cats. I would recommend her for a family that plans on only having her.
She has to take a pill for her diabetes 3 times a day but she takes it like a treat. She will sit and shake for it when you shake the pill bottle. It's very easy to give her.
Marley really has a sweet personality and loves to give kisses!
Intake notes
Marley is a very sweet 18 month old old girl. She has been in the shelter since April, with no interest in her. She is good with other dogs, and wonderful with people. She is not kennelling well at all.....
1 1/2 year old spayed female Pit Bull (listed as an AmStaff). Marley was confiscated from her owners for neglect and the shelter actually went to court and won in order to keep her from having to go back to them. She's good with other dogs and fine with people, but is an alpha girl so is best matched with submissive dogs. No pushover fosters for this girl, either. She needs a leader, not someone she can walk all over. Marley's also an escape artist and can scale 6 foot fences, so her foster will need to be very careful about this. She'll most likely be the most difficult to place of all the dogs on this list, but is a good girl.
Bambi has rickets that cause her to walk awkwardly on her front legs. She eventually falls or stumbles and can't go any further. She needs Doggie Socialization boot camp ASAP, and requires a foster who's prepared to show her the ropes and work on her training -- no pushovers, please! She needs a leader to show her how to be appropriate with both people and other dogs. Best in a home with friendly dogs, but who will also put her in her place if and when she acts up. She shouldn't be with someone who will be a "softie" with her just because of her condition. She's a little pistol, but with the right upbringing should grow to be a well-adjusted dog.

Please note that Pit Bull Rescue San Diego does not adopt on a first come first served basis. Generally we have formed an opinion about the sort of home that we want for each of the dogs in our program. This opinon is formed from knowing each dog and observing their interactions in various situations and through periodic evaluations. Our goal is to place our charges in the home that is the best possible for that particular dog. Our only goal is happiness and forever homes for our dogs. A forever home is most likely to happen when we do the best we can to find lifestyles and personalities that match.
We are aware that this is a human process and that you may or may not agree with our decisions. Please understand that we take very seriously the lives placed in our hands for this brief time and our decisions are only made out of protectiveness for the breed and the specific dogs we are placing and not out of any judgment of you or your life.
