Meet Heathcliff
10.23.06 - update from his foster mom:
He loves to sleep on the couch with his toys and if your sitting on the couch with him, he will snuggle up to you and put his head on your lap. He is good with other dogs - he will jump, run and play with my other dog when he is feeling up to it. At first meeting he got a little frisky but calmed down after getting to know Kia. He is both house and crate trained. He is very content in his cage and will sleep there if there isn't a more comfortable option (the couch) available. Heathcliff will sit and he knows the command "no". Sometimes he has selective hearing, espically when he is asked to get off of the couch. I have only had him on a leash a few times because of his condition, he pulls a little but is manageable. He doesn't like baths. Other then that he just wants to be by you at all times and loves to be pet, hugged and loved.
07.25.06 - update from his foster mom:
He's a great dog. Very happy and loving. He kind of prances when he runs up to you. He loves toys and rolls around on the ground with them in his mouth. He has beautiful amber eyes that just look at you with so much love. He's not a big barker, but when he does bark, it's a low deep bark and not annoying (like some other dogs). He loves people and other dogs. I've never seen him growl at anyone or at my dogs. (my dogs growl at him!). He walks well on a leash, pulls a little bit, but very manageable. Looooves the dog park. Thats all for now, hope it helps.....
Intake Notes: When the gals at Pit Bull Rescue San Diego first laid eyes on me in the shelter, I was quite a sorry sight to behold. I was, without a doubt, the stinkiest bald dog they'd ever come across. But at the same time they realized something else: I was also the sweetest!
A raging skin condition didn't stop me from overflowing with joy at the sight of visitors, and soon enough I was bounding around the room with them and wriggling my way into their laps. They noticed I was also really skinny and needed some fattening up, along with a serious nail trim. It was obvious that I hadn't been cared for by my previous owners at all, and in my hairless, malodorous state I wasn't exactly a prime adoption candidate. So off I went to the vet with my new friends, and boy was I HAPPY to be on my way to a second chance at life!
Nowadays I'm looking much better. My skin isn't raw and painful anymore and I even have some peach fuzz growing in. And guess what? I'm going to have tan fur with a white patch on my chest! Everyone keeps telling me that I'm going to be one handsome boy soon, and it's going to help people realize what a beautiful dog I am both inside and out. I sure hope they're right, because there are a lot of laps to jump in and plenty faces to smooch, and if there's one thing that makes me happier than anything else in the world, it's cuddling up with friends and showering them with love.
The thought of being adopted and living many happy years with my new best friend makes me giddy with excitement, so please submit an adoption application today if you're looking to share a lifetime of love with a four-legged companion like me!

Please note that Pit Bull Rescue San Diego does not adopt on a first come first served basis. Generally we have formed an opinion about the sort of home that we want for each of the dogs in our program. This opinon is formed from knowing each dog and observing their interactions in various situations and through periodic evaluations. Our goal is to place our charges in the home that is the best possible for that particular dog. Our only goal is happiness and forever homes for our dogs. A forever home is most likely to happen when we do the best we can to find lifestyles and personalities that match.
We are aware that this is a human process and that you may or may not agree with our decisions. Please understand that we take very seriously the lives placed in our hands for this brief time and our decisions are only made out of protectiveness for the breed and the specific dogs we are placing and not out of any judgment of you or your life.
