Ginger

foster update, 3/19/2008 Ginger loves women and children, but I think that in her past human family, she witnessed the father harming the mother and children, and is extremely protective of women and children but likes some men. She will play tug of war and fetch, but she usually plays with the other dogs. Her favorite toy is the rope. All of the dogs in our household have a rough play style, and Ginger is the "alpha female." Ginger is housebroken and uses the dog door. Ginger came to us having been abused. Apparently, a man was very violent towards her before they got her pregnant and dropped her off at the pound. Her aggressiveness towards certain men is still being worked on, and she is learning manners. She is learning sit, knows "Out" like to go out of the room, or outside, and we are currently working on her everyday manners as she was poorly treated and poorly trained. She can be posessive of food and toys.
Intake notes

Ginger came to PBRSD from a local shelter, with a litter of 7 newborn pups in tow. Now that her mothering duties are complete, she's ready for a second chance at a loving home of her own. Ginger enjoys meeting new friends while out for her daily stroll in the neighborhood, is housetrained and super social with people. She can be picky about her dog friends, seeming to prefer males more than females. Her ideal home will be one where she is an indoor member of the family where she will continue to get plenty of love and attention, regular exercise, as well as ongoing socialization with people and other dogs, and a solid foundation of positive reinforcement training.

Please note that Pit Bull Rescue San Diego does not adopt on a first come first served basis. Generally we have formed an opinion about the sort of home that we want for each of the dogs in our program. This opinion is formed from knowing each dog and observing their interactions in various situations and through periodic evaluations. Our goal is to place our charges in the home that is the best possible for that particular dog. Our only goal is happiness and forever homes for our dogs. A forever home is most likely to happen when we do the best we can to find lifestyles and personalities that match.

We are aware that this is a human process and that you may or may not agree with our decisions. Please understand that we take very seriously the lives placed in our hands for this brief time and our decisions are only made out of protectiveness for the breed and the specific dogs we are placing and not out of any judgment of you or your life.
