Cupertino (aka Cooper, Cuper Duper, Dupers)
foster update (04/18/07):
Cooper was originally picked up at the border of Mexico and California in very poor health - a condition called puppy strangles. We suspect that he was the product of a Mexican puppy mill that was dumped before crossing the border and then he made his little self across. He was picked up by animal control and from there was pulled into the Pit Bull Rescue San Diego foster program. Yes, we know he's not a pit bull but then pitties deal with such prejudice against them that how can we be prejudiced against other breeds? We think maybe he's a shepherd mix of some sort.
Cooper has been recovering in foster care for 2 months and is completely recovered from the skin condition. He will bear some scars on his face into adulthood from the condition but they only lend external character to a puppy full of internal character.
How he is with other dogs / cats: Cooper plays well with all other dogs and cats. He lives with a 4 year old golden and 2 cats. He has regular play dates with other adoptees - Gatsby, Avalon, and Allegra and their 17 month old foster sister Midnight.
Training: He has started basic training and is doing very well. He mostly is good at sit when he knows that treats are involved. He needs to learn a bit about not jumping up, which is his worst trait. He has been housebroken almost since we started fostering him.
General: Cooper is totally a people dog and ends up under your feet wherever you go. When you're on the couch there is no place he'd rather be than curled up next to you. He currently has two speeds - go and stop. He will want more training and will need an active home committed to involving him in everything. He will probably be a medium sized dog as he still seems somewhat petite.Click here to fill out an adoption application for her.
Please note that Pit Bull Rescue San Diego does not adopt on a first come first served basis. Generally we have formed an opinion about the sort of home that we want for each of the dogs in our program. This opinon is formed from knowing each dog and observing their interactions in various situations and through periodic evaluations. Our goal is to place our charges in the home that is the best possible for that particular dog. Our only goal is happiness and forever homes for our dogs. A forever home is most likely to happen when we do the best we can to find lifestyles and personalities that match.
We are aware that this is a human process and that you may or may not agree with our decisions. Please understand that we take very seriously the lives placed in our hands for this brief time and our decisions are only made out of protectiveness for the breed and the specific dogs we are placing and not out of any judgment of you or your life.
